True friendship is always a beautiful sight to behold.

Rachel Newberry, a senior at Mountain Heritage High School in Burnsville, North Carolina, showed the world what real friendship looks like in a video that has gone viral on Instagram. She and fellow senior Ben Robinson, have been best friends since they were four years old. With prom just around the corner, Rachel decided to surprise Ben with the sweetest “promposal” ever recorded.

Rachel staged an elaborate way to ask Ben to the prom, enlisting the help of several other friends. When Ben entered the school’s auditorium, he was already curious about what was going on.

As the Randy Newman song “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” plays in the background, Ben walks down the aisle toward the stage. Along the way, people hand him flowers.

Ben, who has Down syndrome and has already been named this year’s homecoming king, seems a bit overwhelmed as he collects enough flowers to make a beautiful bouquet. When he arrives at the front of the stage, the curtains part, revealing several girls holding up signs.

Seconds later, Rachel comes running out to where Ben stands, asking, “Will you go to prom with me?”

“Yes!” Ben says instantly, but then the joy and emotion of the situation overwhelms the young man, and he breaks down in tears.

Kneeling down next to her friend, Rachel comforts him. “I love you,” she says soothingly. “We’re going to dance all night, it’s going to be the best prom ever!”

“I did all of this, just for you,” Rachel continues as sweet Ben continues to hide his face in his hands.

After the school shared Rachel’s promposal video on their Twitter page, it was picked up by Barstool Sports, where it went viral.

“I think it’s a statement of the kinds of kids we have here,” Mountain Heritage principal Kevin Huskins said. “The reality is these two have been friends since they were four years old. Just to see this moment happen was priceless.”
