On its own, music can elicit strong emotions; however, when paired with a breathtaking artistic performance, the impact is often heightened.

By itself, Disturbed’s cover of the Simon & Garfunkel classic “Sound of Silence” is haunting and beautiful. Yet when the song was used by French skaters Vanessa James and Morgan Cipres, it only elevated their amazing ice dance.

The duo chose the tune when they competed in the 2017 ISU World Team Trophy competition held in Tokyo, Japan.

The second the first notes of the song came on over the speakers, the audience probably knew they were in for a treat. Aside from being an incredibly captivating pair to watch, Vanessa and Morgan are also gracefully athletic!

Morgan’s ability to lift Vanessa for long moments with one hand is hard to ignore, eliciting spontaneous moments of applause from the crowd.

The skaters admit that it’s taken years to get to where they are as a skating duo. Said Morgan, “Our main problem, before last year, was that we were two different people on the ice. We needed to change that and to increase the connection between the two of us.”
