Sobbing Woman Could Barely Give Her Order. Then Drive-Thru Employee Did Something Incredible In Response.

When 16-year-old Brenden McGee, an employee of the local Whitey’s Ice Cream, went to take his next order, he was greeted with something devastating. On the speaker was a woman crying so deeply that she could barely speak in full sentences.

She tried to get her order across, but her sobbing prevented Brenden from hearing anything intelligible.  It was heartbreaking. Finally after a few tries, he was able to write down what she wanted and request that she pull up to the next window.

After moments of consideration, Brenden decided to do something unexpected. He was determined to make a difference and do what he could to cheer up the mystery woman.

When she reached his window, he looked at her, smiled, and said, “your shake is on me tonight, you have a good night!”

The gesture shook her more than he could have realized.

The little act of kindness brought a tiny grin to the woman’s face as she drove away speechless… McGee had no idea that she had been recently widowed. But the woman felt compelled to return, telling the manager of her uplifting experience:

“She told me that she had just lost her husband a few weeks ago, and it was really tough,”Rhonda VanDyke, told KWPC. “I understood where she was coming from because I’ve had the same experience and so I felt really bad for her, but it was really cool that Brenden could cheer her up.â€

Although the ice cream shop had no standard way of recognizing Brenden’s good act (such as ’employee of the month’), as requested by the woman, they found a way to give him some praise. In the back of the store was a sign explaining to the other workers what Brenden had done for her.

McGee’s kind deed personifies Whitey’s overall policy:

“It definitely is better to be kind and polite, I mean, we automatically have to be polite to people, but it’s always nice to go that extra mile.”
