Teacher Rewrites “Star Is Born” Lyrics For Clever Snow Day Announcement.

As a kid, you probably remember jumping up and down for joy whenever your school had a snow day. While your parents probably got that news through calling the school, checking the local news, or even tuning in to the radio, one Michigan teacher prefers to get more creative with such announcements.

Emily Basse is a special education teacher for Mona Shores Public Schools. When she got word that her school was having a snow day on Jan 30., she delivered the news to her students in style.

The day before, Emily recorded herself singing along to Lady Gaga’s “Shallow” from the movie, “A Star is Born.” Replacing the song’s lyrics with her own snow day-themed lines, she informs her students that “snow’s falling” and they should “go back to bed, you can sleep some more.”

“Stay safe and warm at home,” she sings, showcasing her surprisingly beautiful voice. “It’s a snow day today.” Then she finishes off the catchy tune with a mischievous grin and thumbs up as if conspiring with her students.

Emily uploaded the video to the music app, Smule, which Superintendent Bill O’Brien shared on Twitter, writing, “Seeing as my singing barely qualifies as singing, I am doing what all good teachers do and leaning on an amazing colleague, her name is Emily Basse and she is one incredible Sailor…enjoy!”

Viewers loved hearing her singing voice and seeing how she cares for her students. “She is such an amazing singer,” one person wrote.

Another added, “I hear she’s a good teacher and she’s available for private lessons! She is quite amazing!”

What a great way for teachers to connect and have fun with their students! Something tells us the kids in Emily’s class consider their teacher the coolest in the school. Check out Emily’s snow day song in the video below, and share it with others to make them smile.
