It started when Kirsten’s 7 year old son, Rylan, expressed frustration with the whole “bunny ears” method. Kirsten and Rylan decided to post a live video together, explaining an alternative shoe-tying method for anyone else not feeling the bunny ears. First Mom demonstrates the method, then Rylan gives it a try for the camera. And that’s it! It’s a simple little video, but it has had a big impact on many families already. Here are some of the comments left on Kirsten’s video from real parents:
“I tried this with my 11 yr old (who has autism) I’ve never been able to teach him. THIS WORKED!!!! You just saved us a school years worth of frustration!!! I owe you.”
“So I taught my daughter this, she got it first try and is on cloud nine! Thank you!!!”
” My daughter is 8 almost 9 and in gifted classes…. Soooo smart but has never been able to tie her shoes. It was just a very difficult concept for her… this video changed everything!!!! THANK YOU!!!! “
Kirsten was totally overwhelmed by the video’s massive response. “I just want to say, I absolutely love reading these comments hearing how children are doing this and feeling amazing because they can now tie shoes.” Kirsten wrote. “That was the purpose of my video. It was to help give any child the confidence that they can tie their shoes and they don’t have to give up, or get frustrated.”
The comments just kept pouring in from more parents as the video continued to gain views and shares.
“Wow, thank you for this video. My son is 14 and has autism so he has so much trouble using his fingers. This will be easy for him.”
“My daughter has dyspraxia and she can nearly tie her laces herself with this trick after literally 2 minutes. Thank you so much for sharing this.”
“My son has nerololgical disabilites and weak hands and has never been able to tie his shoes… He just learned this in 2 tries!!! This is a godsend!!!”
“My son’s goal was to just try and show an easier way to start off for kids who struggle with tying shoes.” wrote Kirsten in response to the feedback. “We never realized it would impact so many people… My little boy’s heart is exploding right now just knowing how much he’s helping.”
