Shaun White and long-time girlfriend Nina Dobrev are engaged. The Olympic gold medalist wanted to surprise Nina, which proved tougher than he thought. Vogue reported Shaun finding the perfect moment to pop the question took a lot of planning. In the days leading up to his proposal, Shaun White said Nina Dobrev wasn’t feeling well and didn’t want to leave the house ahead of a planned trip to Africa. Shaun knew he had to think fast, so he devised an elaborate scheme.

Shaun White Had His Publicist Create A Fake Invitation That Nina Dobrev Couldn’t Refuse
His rouse worked, and Nina fell for the faux invitation to an intimate CFDA/Vogue dinner with Anna Wintour at the Gold Swan in New York City.
Nina told Vogue, “He made the invite look so legitimate.”
Shaun arranged for a session with stylist Kate Young, whom Nina believed came courtesy of Vogue. When she walked into the private room at the Gold Swan decked out in Chanel, she was in for the shock of her life.
When she opened the door, she saw Shaun and a photographer, and she knew.
“I went into shock. I just froze and stared at him,” she told Vogue.Then she said, “No.” And then: “No, no, no!“
Nina Dobrev and Shaun White didn’t let on they were engaged for a few days. But they had to tell the world their good news and shared engagement photos and a shot of Nina’s 5-carat rock on Instagram.
Nina captioned her post, “RIP boyfriend, hello fiancé.”
A fan wrote, “Omg yessss I feel like I’ve been waiting for this forever congrats!!!”
This person agreed, “Eeeee let’s go!!! love you guys !!!!”
Shaun also shared an announcement on Instagram captioned, “She said YES.”
