Man Finds Tiny Seal Tangled In Discarded Netting, Then Rushes To Set Him Free.

Lost and abandoned fishing gear, or ghost gear, takes the lives of more than 100,000 marine animals every single year. While large groups like the Ghost Gear Initiative are working with companies and fishermen to reduce the deadly impact, a lot of good can be done by everyday Good Samaritans. When Jeffery H. Dorr Jr. was out on his boat about 25 miles from Owls Head in Maine, he came across a helpless soul. The little seal was tangled in a mess of discarded netting. He quickly jumped into action. Jeffery says in the video that he could tell the seal was barely breathing. Clearly distressed, the little guy occasionally let out little squealing noises. The fisherman took the time to carefully cut the netting away. "He's relaxing a little bit, every time I cut around his neck," Jeffery commented. "I think he knows you're helping him," another person says as they film. Jeffery even stopped at one point to calm the poor seal, petting his head, before resuming the lifesaving work. "It's okay, little buddy," he cooed. Watch the video below, you don't want to miss the ending! Share it with the animal lovers in your life.
