Scarlett Lee had her moment of fame on tonight’s episode of American Idol, and her beautiful voice and emotional performance moved the judges and fans to tears.
Scarlett walked in front of Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan and sang a soulful rendition of Clown by Emeli Sandé. With her very first note, she had all three judges in shock. And as she continued, they became more and more impressed.
“Wow, what just happened?” Lionel gasped after she perfectly belted a long and powerful note.
The moment Scarlett ended her audition, Katy, Lionel, and Luke stood up and gave her a round of applause. After they sat down, Katy noted that she thought it was crazy when Scarlett first said she was going to sing Clown, but she didn’t think it was crazy for long.
“That is one of my favorite songs because, like, it’s so vulnerable,” Katy began. “…Your personality is so big, and sometimes people don’t take you seriously. But when you sing a song, and you sing a song like that, then you cut through all of the layers. It doesn’t matter the makeup. It doesn’t matter the outfit. You become Scarlett Lee, the singer, the artist, the possible next American Idol.”
“I’m taking you seriously,” Katy added. “Your soul is shining through.”
Scarlett Lee Heads to Hollywood
With a unanimous vote, Scarlett Lee earned a ticket straight to Hollywood. And once the audience digested the stunning audition, they took to social media to cheer her on.
