It’s hard to believe the kids in the video below are just rehearsing… because they are definitely performance-ready.

The elementary and middle school choir at Baltimore’s Cardinal Shehan School has gone wildly viral thanks to an incredible video of 30 children singing Andra Day’s powerful anthem “Rise Up.”

YouTube
Kenyatta Hardison, the school’s choir director of 20+ years, was working with the children on the song when she suggested they try something: streaming their rehearsal on Facebook Live. She knew the idea of having an audience (albeit an online one) would light a fire under the students; she didn’t expect them to deliver this stunning performance.

The soloists are Kai Young, John Paige (both sixth graders), Bryana Hardison (fourth grade), and Carlyse Blackwell (fifth grade). Each one has a beautiful voice, but it’s the passion and emotion behind their voices that’s inspiring millions. Not to mention the energy of their classmates and director behind them.

This performance gives fresh meaning to the song’s powerful lyrics:
“All we need, all we need is hope
And for that we have each other
And we will rise…
I’ll rise up
Rise like the day”
