Richard Garda was fishing on a river with some friends in the Kiev region of Ukraine one day when he spotted something way out of the ordinary. Far out in the water, a young boy was standing on a small chunk of floating ice. The men speculated that the child had been playing on the frozen surface upriver when a block broke off, sending him floating precariously along the tides.
It was a chilly day, with temperatures hovering around freezing at 32 degrees Fahrenheit. Worse, the little boy called out, “I’m sinking!” Richard could see that he didn’t have much time, so he threw a new hook on his rod and took aim. Incredibly, the child was able to catch the line in his hand, and Richard simply reeled him in like a big fish.
Now that’s the catch of the year! The situation could have ended tragically, but thanks to one clever fisherman, the little boy is safe and sound. Watch the unusual rescue in the video below, and don’t forget to share this story.
