Nothing boosts workplace morale quite like employees who feel taken care of and appreciated.
That’s why at the State Farmer’s Market Restaurant in Raleigh, North Carolina, you’ll only see happy faces when you look at the staff. All of the people who work there consider themselves very lucky. They couldn’t ask for a better boss in Gypsy Gilliam (pictured below on the far right), whose generosity recently blew them away.
A few months ago, a rumor began circulating around the restaurant. Employees heard that Gypsy was planning to take everyone to Disney World after Christmas. Nobody really believed it at first, but as it turns out, it was true! In February, Gypsy closed her restaurant for a few days and took 20 employees and their families to “the most magical place on Earth.”
Gypsy brought a total of around 50 people to the park, covering all their expenses. “The room, the board, the food, the rides — everything was free for us,” employee Nelson Ellison said.
They were all incredibly grateful to Gypsy for giving their families an experience they otherwise couldn’t afford. “I could cry right now. I don’t think she’ll ever understand how grateful we are for what she did for us,” Jasmine Kamel, another employee, said.
Jessica Burr, who has a 5-year-old son, added, “I know this is something I wouldn’t be able to do for him. I am forever grateful to Gypsy, and I don’t have any idea how to pay her back.”
In keeping with her humble and generous nature, Gypsy simply replied by stating she just wanted to thank her staff for doing such a great job. Way to make the people who work for you feel valued, Gypsy! We’re certain they’ll cherish this memory forever.
