Rescuers Thought This Goose Was Cooked — Turns Out He Was Just Frozen.

It’s easy to be caught off guard when temperatures suddenly plummet to below zero, even if you’re an animal who lives outdoors.

Canada geese usually migrate south in the colder months, but for some reason, one goose stuck around Indiana Dunes State Park in Porter, Indiana well into the winter months. When temperatures dropped to 11 degrees Fahrenheit in January, this goose was cooked. Well, sort of.

Just look at that poor, miserable bird! The unfortunate goose had frozen right to the sand where it was sitting by the lake. Some kind people tried to pry him loose, but he wouldn’t and couldn’t budge, so they called the Porter Volunteer Firefighters for help.

Firefighters showed up and used a hose to thaw the ice around the animal, freeing him along with a huge chunk of rock-hard sand. The bird was taken to a wildlife rehab center for further evaluation and treatment.

Brr! We are feeling chilly just looking at this poor goose! Thanks to all the volunteers who worked to get this little guy unstuck.
