Quick-Thinking Mail Carrier Saves Dog’s Life After She Tangled With A Copperhead!

Mail carriers don’t wear capes. It isn’t part of their uniform. Perhaps the United States Postal Service (USPS) should consider adding them? Our postal employees deliver our mail daily, rain or shine. No matter where you live, you have a USPS carrier. Mostly, we ignore these quiet heroes as they come and go, delivering letters and packages. Fortunately for many people, these unsung heroes don’t ignore us!

Carrier Seana Green knows most people on her route in Durango, Colorado. When she noticed one customer missing for several days, she called out to her and discovered that she had fallen. Green notified emergency personnel, who helped her customer. When Lisette LeJeune of Houston, Texas, was diagnosed with COVID, her carrier, Mary, left a care package on the porch with a “Get Well” card. Another carrier, Shonda Lemon, of Chicago, noticed an elderly customer hadn’t been retrieving mail from her box. She notified authorities, who performed a wellness check and found Helen Iwanski on the ground, unable to get up. These three examples are proof that mail carriers should wear capes.

But wait, there is more!

Recently, in Haralson County, Georgia, another mail carrier went above and beyond. While delivering her route one day, mail carrier Holle Prigmore noticed one of her customer’s dogs limping along the side of the road. Knowing that most of her customers worked during the day, Holle was instantly concerned about Ginger, a small black and tan beagle. As she got out of her vehicle to offer Ginger a treat, she noticed a snake near the dog. In horror, Holle watched as the snake lashed out and appeared to bite the pup.

Knowing she had to act quickly, Holle scooped Ginger up. She was able to identify the snake as a copperhead. Holle wrote a note on her phone and rang the Ring doorbell at her customer’s home. Holding the note up so the homeowner could read it, Holle told them what happened and that she was taking their pet to the emergency vet. This was definitely not a normal day for this dedicated mail carrier!

The homeowner, Kelsey Proctor, saw her Ring notification. Realizing what Holle had done for her pet, she was grateful for the quick actions of the mail carrier. The two eventually connected through social media and met in person. In an interview with a local news channel, Kelsey said, “I just think that speaks a lot about her and her character that she was so willing to jump in and help out when she didn’t know anything about us.”

Ginger is doing well after being treated so quickly. Holle recently met Kelsey in person. Ginger ran up to Holle and immediately began showing her some grateful puppy love! We’re pretty sure that you will agree that mail carriers should wear capes! Share this story with your friends.
