Prince Harry Speaks Out Following UK Charity Commission’s Findings In Sentebale Scandal

Prince Harry Sentebale

Prince Harry famously stepped down as Sentebale’s patron in March. At the time, he cited that the relationship with Sophie Chandauka, the chair of the African charity’s board, had broken “beyond repair, creating an untenable situation.” His co-founder, Prince Seeiso of Lesotho, also stepped down. Sophie Chandauka alleged claims of misconduct against Sentebale. Per People, the Charity Commission for England and Wales announced no “widespread or systemic bullying, harassment, misogyny or misogynoir” following the chair’s claims. The Commission admonished the leaders for bringing the conflict to the public, calling it a “failure to resolve disputes internally severely impacted the charity’s reputation and risked undermining public trust in charities more generally.”

Prince Harry’s Team Spoke Out About The Sentebale Scandal

In a statement to People, a spokesperson for Prince Harry shared thoughts on the Sentebale findings.

“Unsurprisingly, the Commission makes no findings of wrongdoing in relation to Sentebale’s Co-Founder and former Patron, Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex. They also found no evidence of widespread bullying, harassment or misogyny and misogynoir at the charity, as falsely claimed by the current Chair,” the statement reads.

“Despite all that, their report falls troublingly short in many regards, primarily the fact that the consequences of the current Chair’s actions will not be borne by her — but by the children who rely on Sentebale’s support,” the spokesperson added.

Per People, Sophie Chandauka shared her disappointment in the Charity Commission’s findings, but plans to remain true to the mission of Sentebale.

“Despite the recent turbulence, we will always be inspired by the vision of our Founders, Prince Harry and Prince Seeiso, who established Sentebale in memory of their precious mothers, Princess Diana and Queen ‘Mamohato,” Sophie Chandauka said. “To all who believe in our mission: please walk with us as Sentebale recovers, renews, and rises to meet the hopes and expectations of the next generation.”
