In 2014, Rachel Platten took the music world by storm with her hit Fight Song. This catchy hit quickly became an anthem for those who refuse to give up on their dreams, no matter the odds. Now, a decade later, Platten not only has more music to be proud of but also two little ones of her own. Plus, they recently inspired Platten to write a new song called Girls.
Even though this song was originally written with her daughters in mind, at a show in November 2023, Platten chose to dedicate her performance of the song to someone very special in the audience. This person is her 100-year-old neighbor, Gloria.

Rachel Platten Dedicates New Song Girls To 100-Year-Old Neighbor
In their first video together, we see Platten deliver a cake and gifts to Gloria in celebration of her 100th birthday! Although she’s a century old, it’s clear that Gloria still has so much life left inside of her, often cracking jokes with the pop star.
In this video, we also learn that Platten was once struggling with her music, something she confided to Gloria about. This wise woman’s suggestion? To have a second kid!

“You said if you have the second baby, I promise you, your music will take off again,” Platten recalls. “And after having that baby, I wrote a song to both of my daughters to tell them what I want them to know in the world.”
At Gloria’s request, Platten sat down at her piano and sang the song for her. As Platten plays, the 100-year-old gets emotional.

Gloria even adds a melody of her own at the end, prompting Platten to give it some lyrics. This impromptu moment leaves Platten just as speechless, and it seems she tears up, too.
“I don’t think age has anything to do with it,” Gloria says.
“I don’t think so either,” Platten replies.
