There is nothing more terrifying than the report of a missing child. The younger they are, the more desperate the search can seem. When a 3-year-old boy went missing recently in Kentucky, the Louisville Police Department got right to work. They knew every second mattered, and they employed every resource to find the child. Police searched on foot, with the help of drones, and even a helicopter, but to no avail. Then, unexpectedly, a dog appeared and became the day’s unlikely hero.

The Hero Dog May Have Saved the Boy’s Life
Louisville Police Department Officer Josh Thompson encountered the hero dog by chance. As he explains in the video posted to the department’s Facebook page, “I’m kind of being a little leery of the dog. He’s barking, chirping at me a little bit, and then continues to follow me back to the front porch again to knock on the house again.”
The officer knew the dog might be his best chance at finding the little boy. And he was right.
“Hey, let’s go find this kid,” he said to the dog and followed it into the backyard. There, police found the missing toddler inside a car.
“Dad mode turns on, and I’m trying to get this kid to hit the unlock button,” Thompson explained. “He hit the door latch, and I just gave him the yank motion. He yanked, and I pulled that door open quickly. And he jumped from the car, bear hugged my neck, and wouldn’t let go.”
Police don’t know where the dog came from, but believe it “was a blessing from God.”
This person summed up the hero dog’s rescue in a beautiful way.
“And God said, let me send them without wings so no one suspects they are angels,” they wrote.
