This cover of Ben E. King’s classic “Stand By Me” gives me the chills! Yes, it’s an incredible song, but the main reason I love it relates to how this particular rendition came together. Playing For Change is the organization responsible for this work of art. Their entire mission is “to inspire, connect, and bring peace to the world through music.”
Working with musicians from all over the world, they were able to splice together each artist’s part to create one continuous track. The result is a bone-chillingly good rendition of “Stand By Me” that shows how easily music unites.
It starts out with a few individual street buskers in California and Louisiana, but– as the song progresses– other performers join in from around the world! The song features both individuals and groups from The Netherlands, New Mexico, France, Brazil, Russia, Venezuela, The Congo, South Africa, Spain, and Italy. I don’t know how they pulled it off, but all of these performs sound incredible together! It’s so unique, and it just goes to show that– no matter where you are in the world– you can create something beautiful… And, like the song says, it reminds us all to stand to stand together.
