Lucia Romano and Matthew Schwab, a couple with Down syndrome, were posing for a photo shoot when he surprised her with a marriage proposal. She hadn’t seen this coming, since they were at a leadership conference with GiGi’s Playhouse, an organization that provides programs for people with Down syndrome. As far as she knew, Matthew was there as a public speaker, not for romance. However, he completely blew her away with the most beautiful speech of his life!
“You’re beautiful, kind, and friendly,” he told her. “You always make me laugh, you always make me a better self, and I’m not just saying that. I want to continue this journey with you, even though it may take us longer to achieve our dreams.”
Then, Matthew got down on one knee and held out the ring. Her reaction to the surprise photo shoot proposal couldn’t have been sweeter!
“It’s a yes, babe!” she said excitedly, as other conference-goers cheered for the happy couple.
GiGi’s Playhouse shared footage of the romantic moment on TikTok, where many commenters were quick to offer their good wishes.
“I love this,” wrote one user. “This gives me hope for my son who has Down syndrome. Congratulations.”
