It’s not uncommon to hear that a beloved celebrity isn’t necessarily the kindest. But there are also lots of stories where the opposite is true! One curious Reddit user encouraged folks to share their own celeb encounters, both good and bad. Despite asking for both, it doesn’t take long to realize that a good portion of them, especially the ones with the most interactions, recounted positive moments, giving us an idea of who some of the kindest celebrities are today.

With over 14,000 comments on this post, there’s certainly a lot to explore in this conversation. But I’d like to share with you some of my favorites — and the favorites of others, it seems. Our first kind celebrity is David Hasselhoff. According to Reddit user AnsweringLiterally, their sibling battled a terminal illness in the 80s. In turn, Make-A-Wish gave them a chance to visit the set of Knight Rider to meet David Hasselhoff.

“Fast forward 30 years and I’m at Heathrow picking up a family member when I see the Hoff standing there on his phone,” they recall. “I approach him and wait for him to end his call. He looks at me and says hello. I tell him that we met. He looks at me and say, ‘Was their name …?’ He remembered their name after 30 years. That will always stay with me.”

Fans Share Their Interactions With the Kindest Celebrities

There’s no telling how many fans Hasselhoff has met over the years. Still, after all that time, he remembered that person’s name. Plus, there’s a good chance the actor has no idea that this simple kindness means so much to that family. Similarly, fans of Steve Martin and Martin Short will be happy to hear that they’re just as great as they seem, including in ways few see.

“I have worked with Steve Martin and Martin Short, they’re both super nice, respectful, and incredibly dedicated to their craft,” Reddit user snakefest shares. “They’ll spend hours finessing a couple lines in a show they do every night just to get it right for that evening’s performance.”

You might expect most celebrities to be quite reserved when meeting a fan. According to Reddit user ClydeinLimbo, that was certainly not the case when they met Ian McKellen. The two of them crossed paths when the actor visited the spa the user worked at. To say their interaction was unexpected would be an understatement!

“We didn’t sell ice cream but there was a farm shop across the road and I mentioned it and he asked me if I’d take him there,” the fan shares. “My friend who worked in the farm shop had his mouth open the whole time seeing me buying ice cream with Gandalf.”

You never know what a celebrity will be like in person. Sometimes, it can be disappointing. So it’s nice to hear from fans like these that there really are folks as kind and awesome as they seem!
