Without a doubt, Patches is the biggest cat Richmond Animal Care and Control have ever encountered.
Workers at the Virginia animal shelter couldn’t believe their eyes when they saw the white cat with gray spots who weighs a whopping 40.3 pounds. The cat was immediately put on a “very special” diet and exercise plan to help him lose some of his pudge, but there was one very crucial step they needed to take to ensure the animal’s safety: finding the perfect adoptive pet parent: someone who would take the job of helping Patches trim down seriously.
“Did you wake up today and say, ‘let’s adopt the largest cat anyone has ever seen?'” the shelter wrote on Facebook. “If so, we have the cat for you.”
Commenters were equal-parts impressed and appalled by the animal’s condition. The shelter asked anyone interested in helping Patches reach his goal weight to email them, and by the end of the day, they’d selected the perfect cat-parent.
It took two shelter workers to carry Patches in a crate to his new owner’s car, but he’s already settling in nicely in his new home. With a strict diet and exercise regime, he should slim down in no time so he can live a nice, long life.
