One injured pelican is doing so much better thanks to a random onlooker! When Ben Friedman spotted the bird wandering around with a torn pouch under his beak, he knew a pelican rescue was in order. Not only was the animal wounded, but this specific injury was making it impossible for him to eat! Carefully, Ben managed to catch the pelican so that rescuers could treat the torn pouch.
At the end of the young man’s TikTok video, he urged others not to turn a blind eye should they come across a creature in trouble. Although we don’t recommend trying to capture an animal without the direct guidance of a wildlife rehabilitation expert, it’s a good idea to find out what rescue services are in your area and reach out immediately.
“If you see injured wildlife… chances are you might be their only chance at survival,” Ben wrote in his video. “HELP THEM OUT.”
Although the user doesn’t include any footage of the bird’s treatment, others have documented the process of stitching up a pelican’s torn pouch.
