After a South Bend, IN, police officer rescued a dog who wandering the streets with a zip tie around his nose, she gave him a forever home.
Ofc. Stephanie Northcutt spotted the dog roaming around with a leash and collar around his neck. After some coaxing, she convinced him to let her help. He shyly approached Stephanie with his head down low and his tail between his legs. As she petted and consoled him, a bystander clipped the tie, which was so tight that it left a deep ring around his snout.

The brown Doberman was reserved, but also calm and friendly with Stephanie and the others who had stopped to help. After he was free, he and Stephanie bonded, and he was visibly appreciative of his hero.
Stephanie took the dog to a local animal rescue center where employees and vets ensured he was healthy. The center also helped open an investigation.
Ten days later, the South Bend Police Department posted a happy ending on Facebook. Stephanie officially adopted the dog, whom she named “Zeus.”
“We hope you’ll love this update as much as we do,” reads the caption.
“The dog, now named Zeus, spent some time bonding with the Northcutt’s other dogs before Officer Northcutt made it official with the folks of South Bend Animal Resource Center – SBARC,” it continued. “SBARC’s team says Zeus will likely not suffer any long-term physical effects from his injuries and is doing extremely well despite the bad hand he was dealt.”
To spread the good vibes Stephanie will be sponsoring two adoption events at SBARC. The department will announce those dates once they’re finalized.
