Nonverbal Autistic Kid’s 1st Words Send His Family Into Quiet Celebration.

Grandma sits at a table with her grandson who is drawing. She's looking up at the camera, an emotional look on her face.

In life, we all have milestones worth celebrating. For Bethany Chishti’s autistic child, the milestone of speaking didn’t look like some might imagine. This is because he’s considered to be nonverbal. But he has his own ways of communicating, and his loved ones have no doubt grown accustomed to the fact that he doesn’t use words like them.

Then, one day, something unexpected happened. Bethany’s little boy was sitting at a table, some family members gathered around, as he drew. In a video capturing the moment, he was tracing his hand. Grandma, who the kids call Popcorn, told him how great of a job he was doing.

“Thank you, Popcorn!” the little boy said in response.

Needless to say, this was a monumental moment for the whole family!

“The amount of restraint it took for all of us not to erupt as soon as he said that,” Bethany wrote on TikTok.
