Cats, as we all know, don’t like being told what to do, which means they aren’t the best subjects when it comes to photo shoots.

But we can work with kittens since they spend a lot more time sleeping and they’re still young and impressionable. So when Kitty Schaub of Kitty Lee Photography in Benton Harbor, Michigan, glanced over and saw the family’s new kitten snoozing away, an idea struck that not only resulted in some absolutely adorable photos but also raised funds for a local rescue.

This is Luna. Kitty and her young daughter, Amelie, adopted the cutie from a local shelter last spring when she was just weeks old. Soon after they brought her home, Kitty had taken out some props for a photo shoot when she glanced over and saw their sweet kitten snoozing away.
“Why should newborn babies get all the glory?” she wondered.

So she started snapping away, and the results? Words don’t do them justice!

“The bowl I posed her in is literally a salad bowl from my kitchen,”Kitty said.

Oops! Woke her up!

The pictures were just too adorable to keep to herself, so she posted them on Facebook and they quickly went viral.

Kitty’s sister-in-law mentioned Luna resembled Dinah from “Alice in Wonderland,” and that passing comment sparked yet another idea. Amelie already had an Alice in Wonderland dress, so Kitty shot Round 2 with that theme in mind:

Seriously, does it get any cuter?!

So many people requested copies of the photos that Kitty decided to do a little philanthropic work, combining them into a six-month calendar and selling them. The lucky recipient of the proceeds was Save a Stray, an organization in St. Joseph, Michigan, that rescues, rehabilitates, and re-homes stray pets!

But Kitty’s little stroke of genius reached even further, inspiring cat lovers everywhere to do similar newborn shoots with their own kittens! There’s nothing more uplifting than bringing a newborn bundle of joy back home, but who says that only applies to human babies?

We’re sure Amelie and Luna will continue to serve as muses for Kitty. What a whimsical way to show your love!
