This is a very sad fact, but a fact nonetheless. And what’s even more heartbreaking is their inner struggle. A lot of veterans suffer from PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder), a mental illness which can develop after a person is exposed to one or more traumatic events, such as warfare. The symptoms include disturbing flashbacks, avoidance or numbing of memories of the event, and unexpected fear.
But a wonderful organization named New Directions is helping these struggling soldiers. The group has brought thousands off the street, and healed them from mental illness, drug abuse and homelessness… and it’s all free.
A beautiful part of the program is their choir, which gives veterans hope, comfort and love through music.
Here’s the Takeaway: No matter what you’re going through or how hopeless you think you are, there are people who can help – you may not even know them, but there will always be a rock to lie on if you just open your heart to the opportunity of recovery.
