Math, science, English, history… that’s what students usually learn from their educators. But this teacher “schooled” his kids on so much more than that!
When the kids circled him with an ambush dance off, this teacher was a totally unsuspecting victim. But once the student jumping circles around him finished his bit, “teach” was ready to strike back with some moves of his own. With poise and ease he pulled out what looked like a flawless Irish jig. The students of Whitney M. Young High School went absolutely wild!
Ther teacher who struck back was Dean of Students John Fanning. When asked about his Irish jig, Fanning told the Huffington Post, “Like any kid who grew up in [predominantly Irish Chicago neighborhood] Rogers Park, I was dragged to Irish dance classes.”
Apparently the rambunctious dancing was part of a senior prank. In response, Fanning said, “Why get angry? As far as senior pranks go, it’s pretty tame and innocuous.”
At the end of the day, it wasn’t the type of dance that earned Mr. Fanning respect: it was the sheer fact that he danced back in the first place! He showed those students that teachers can have a little fun on the job and make memories with their studenst while they’re at it.
