Little Afghan Refugee’s Homemade Soccer Jersey Goes Viral, So UN Sends Him To Meet His Hero.

Murtaza Ahmadi, a young Afghan boy, became an internet sensation last year after a photo of him in a homemade soccer jersey took the internet by storm. The young boy crafted a replica of his favorite footballer’s jersey, Lionel Messi, from a trash bag.

In a terrible turn of events, the adorable photograph put Ahmadi and his family in danger with the Taliban, “I received 20-30 unknown threatening calls in Afghanistan asking why I’m teaching my kid about football and not teaching him about the Quran,” the boy’s father, Muhammad Arif Ahmadi, told CNN.

1. The family sold everything they owned, fled to Pakistan 40 days ago, and thankfully all are safe and sound.
