After Trying To Have Baby Chick For 6 Yrs, Pelican Finally Becomes A Father!

Every baby is a reason to celebrate, but one tiny bird was extra special because his dad wanted a child more than anything.

A pelican named Mr. Percival has been living at the Twinnies Pelican and Seabird Rescue sanctuary in Australia for almost two decades. He’s spent the last six years desperately trying to have a little one, but nothing ever seemed to work.

“Mr. Percival has never given up trying to have a baby pelican chick,” the sanctuary wrote. “He sits on his eggs with his partner that shares the incubation and the eggs have never hatched. He has been doing this for six years now and we felt so sorry for him.”

That’s why they decided to help him out! “We did this amazing thing for him as we wanted to make him really happy this time,” they explained. “We switched one egg over from one nest to the other.”

And it worked! With plenty of love from Mr. Percival and his partner, the egg hatched!

As soon as the new parents met their baby, they fell in love! These days, Mr. Percival is “proud as punch” at the sight of his adorable chick.

The tiny pelican is one of three that is currently living at the rescue. As they’ve grown, they’ve started playing together, but nothing can keep Mr. Percival from picking his baby out of the bunch and being protective!
