Morgan Bullock of Richmond, Virginia, has been dancing her whole life, but there’s no style she enjoys more than Irish step dance.

The 20-year-old fell in love with the art form when she watched an Irish dance recital at age 10. It spoke to her because it’s unique – just like she is. In the years since, she’s met few other black Irish dancers. But as she likes to say, “No one makes history by staying inside the box.”
Back in December, Morgan created a TikTok account to share her performances with the world. Her incredible moves paired with music from artists like Drake, Koffee, Doja Cat, Janet Jackson, and Michael Jackson quickly went viral, earning her thousands of adoring fans.
These days, Irish and non-Irish people alike are showering her with praise and admiration!
Her passion has only grown stronger over her years of practice.
“Irish dance is like any other cultural art form, it was created to be shared,” Morgan explained. “It’s a dance that was born out of oppression; we can’t lose sight of that. For me, as a little black girl, it was a beautiful art I was desperate to be a part of.”
Morgan has used her talent to touch hearts for years, and she’s nowhere near ready to stop! Before the novel coronavirus pandemic began, she was traveling almost every weekend to compete in Glasgow, Dublin, London, and cities in the U.S. She was even invited to perform in the iconic “Riverdance” stage show, which has since been postponed.
But the best part? She has become a role model to other girls who see themselves in her.
“The most surreal moment was a black mother telling me she let her daughter sign up for Irish dance classes because she saw me,” she said. “I didn’t have someone who looked like me to look up to in what is historically a very white space. That I can be that person for young black dancers is an honor.”
What an incredible artist – and a great role model for people who are fighting to follow their dreams. Stay proud, Morgan, and keep stepping!
