Last month, we introduced you to Laura Izumikawa Choi and her precious baby daughter, Joey. Our previous article on the pair showed off the mom’s creativity and skill as she decked Joey out in all manner of hilarious costumes while she napped. She shared the adorable photos with the world through her now-famous instagram account. Together, Laura and Joey made us– and the world– laugh. But now, Laura is showing the world her softer side. Rather than making us laugh, her latest Instagram post really made us think.

The post, shared recently, celebrates Joey who is turning 5 months old. But it isn’t just a big day for baby Joey, it’s a milestone for Mom as well.

Check out Laura’s message below:

Dear Joey. We are officially 5 months old today.

That’s right, I said “we.” I think it’s safe to say that my life started again when I met you 5 months ago.

I sit here and reflect on how I haven’t bounced back in physical shape (hair falling out, skin like an orange peel and my body still jiggles like a Christmas ornament), but wow I’ve never felt more RENEWED and ALIVE. There has always been happiness but now there is JOY, thanks to you and our Creator.

I know I’m supposed to take note on all the little baby milestones you’ve been reaching every week but the things I’ve really noticed aren’t written in the baby books or blogs. No one prepared me for any of this. I had no idea just HOW different my life would be with you.

I didn’t know I’d be experiencing jolts of electricity when you grab my face and laugh. I didn’t know an endless mysterious galaxy existed just by looking into your eyes. I look at your daddy now and I literally see Superman, just INDESTRUCTIBLE. Didn’t know I wouldn’t need coffee anymore because being around you just gives me LIFE. Wow, the list goes on, girl.

I guess these are the milestones mamas go through. I’m not trying to downplay your milestones or anything (cuz you’ve outdone yourself girlfriend), but what I’ve learned in the past 5 months, I can’t even process straight. You’ve taught me how deep and wide love can go and in order to LIVE, we need to continually give that love forward.

So thank you Joey for the greatest 5 months of my life. Can’t wait to see you make a good woman out of me. Happy 5 months dumpling.

I love how Laura recognizes her daughter’s birth as her own rebirth, stopping to celebrate both her child’s life and the incredible new life that has come with motherhood. And I especially love what she says about the power of love, and how “we need to continually give that love forward.”
