From a very young age, Breana Carsey had that in spades. She had faith that her father would ultimately give in and buy her a breeding mare and that one day, she’d give birth to a foal who’d grown up to become a great champion. After years of begging, Breana’s dad Brian broke down and got her an Ohio standardbred foal. Unfortunately, he was the runt of the litter.

In the back of his mind, Brian was hoping his daughter wouldn’t want him and he could make a quick sale. But he was wrong. Breana named him MJB Got Faith and began training with him so he could compete in some upcoming races.

He didn’t do especially well, and truth be told, barely qualified to enter, but despite that slow start, he quickly proved himself to be a force to be reckoned with. From there on out, MJB Got Faith went on a winning streak, trotting away with four first-place ribbons!

Next thing the family knew, MJB Got Faith, the little horse that could, qualified to enter the 2015 state championships!

Breana entered him in the 2-year-old trotting colt division with high hopes. But in the days leading up to the Ohio Sires Stakes Championship in Columbus, Ohio, Brian was less optimistic and offered some words of caution…

“I said, ‘Baby, if you finish third, you should be so thankful,’”he recalled. “She goes, ‘Daddy, if he finishes last, I’m going to be thankful. But, he’s going to win.’â€
MJB wasn’t the only one who had faith.

And guess what? He won! Breana walked away with the $100,000 prize that day, half of which she donated to charity.

The rest, she said at the time, she planned to use to purchase a farm. Since then, though, she’s changed her mind and now plans to spend those funds on charitable causes.
“I want to put people first, ahead of my own needs,”she said.
