One day, Heather walked into her daughter’s bedroom to find it looked a bit different. Okay, it actually looked a lot different. You see, this preteen was feeling rather creative. So, she took the time and effort to paint her walls. But she didn’t paint them all a single color. Instead, she added a few colorful pieces, like a sun, flowers, and some handprints. “Being a millennial parent is so wild because I feel like I’m supposed to be upset she painted her walls and ceiling but instead I think she’s just the coolest person ever and I’m her personal hype girl,” Heather shares in her video, adding in the caption, “Being a millennial mom of a preteen is actually the coolest thing.”

This preteen’s room may need to be painted over with white one day. But so what? Sure, rules and boundaries are vital for every kid and teen. But you’d be surprised by how many are based on a parent’s desire to avoid minor inconveniences rather than what is best for the kid.

Allowing this preteen’s creativity to shine is well worth any possible repercussions. Plus, now she gets to have a space that is truly personalized. What a joy it must be to have the ability to encourage someone to be who they are!
