Policemen across the nation have sworn to serve and protect the people of their neighborhoods and cities. This can manifest itself in simple acts of kindness, that often go unnoticed.

You may remember Roberta and the chivalrous Officer Morrison of Charles County Maryland. Roberta went out for a stroll but was gone for several hours. Her daughter soon got worried and called the local police department who immediately got on the search. After 40 minutes, Roberta was found completely unharmed and enjoying the lovely day. Based on the 911 call, Officer Morrison knew Roberta suffered from dementia. So rather than upset or confuser her further, Morrison offered to walk her home.

Roberta’s example is just one of many when it comes to the wonderful things policemen do every day without any recognition.

This week, we once again, found a beautiful example of community policing. The Bloomingdale Police Department were called recently when a 21-year-old mentally disabled woman wandered away from her home.

Officers found her walking along the road by herself but the young woman was frightened and unsure. When Officer Giovenco was finally able to calm the young woman down, he listened attentively to what she had to say.

She explained that she wanted to walk the ‘trails’ instead of ride in the cruiser. So Giovenco obliged and walked her back, all the way to her home.
