Some people were born to dance, some to write, still, others to sing. Melanie Masson unequivocally falls in the latter camp.
When she appeared as a contestant in the ninth season of “The X Factor UK” in 2012, the judges didn’t appear to think much of her. At the time, she was a 44-year-old stay-at-home mother of two who taught a music class for young children, prancing around the house dressed as a fairy. You can kind of forgive the judges for not taking her entirely seriously.

But as we know, you should never judge a book by its cover and on shows like X Factor, you can find the most phenomenal talent just about anywhere.
“Music is the only thing I’ve ever wanted to do, but I feel it’s kind of make or break now,”she said before her audition. “I’m going to sing today like it’s the last time I’m ever going to sing.â€
And did she ever!

With the first note out of her mouth as she launched into Janis Joplin’s “Cry Baby,”her voice showed its true power and virtually blew the judges against the back wall of the arena.

“Melanie, that was insane,”one of the judges gushed. “Oh my God, that voice! You were guiding us through the song, telling us the story. It was amazing, it really was.â€
“You came onstage and seemed really gentle, and all of a sudden it was fire and this song, and this diva came out of you,”judge Tulisa wholeheartedly agreed. “You own that stage, you absolutely rocked it.â€
