When potentially tragic events requires quick-thinking, you want people like this French man on your side. One summer day, the man was alerted to a nearby fire. It originated in one of his neighbor’s homes, and the smoke billowing out told him everything he needed to know. Because the man and his neighbors live in a high-rise apartment complex, helping them get out of the burning building would not be easy, especially since they are on the sixth floor.

And yet this 39-year-old man bravely stepped out on the ledge of the tall building. He inched his way closer to the neighbor’s window, making it easier to help whoever needed to get out. Once the two little ones were safe in the other apartment, it was time for everyone else to follow. In the end, this brave man helped rescue six people in total. Despite putting his own life at risk, this heroic man insists that choosing to help was an easy choice. In fact, it sounds like he didn’t have to think about it at all.

“There were lives at stake,” the man explains. “I didn’t calculate; it was instinct.”
Footage of this rescue quickly went viral, garnering the man much praise. In fact, Paris police will be awarding him with a medal. Plus, he got a personal call from President Emmanuel Macron. It is said that, on this call, the president praised the man for his courage. As amazing as all of that is there is no doubt that the gratitude of this rescued family means most of all.
