As snow began to blanket St. Louis, Missouri, some neighborhoods found themselves struggling. There was so much snow on the ground, on the sidewalks, and in the parking lots that people were unable to leave their homes. Kenny Harrell noticed the problem in the city’s Dogtown neighborhood and decided he wanted to help. He told KMOV he doesn’t live in Dogtown, but worked there for years and feels connected to the people.

“You shovel people out of their house, and then you see them complain about not being able to get off the street or to the main road, so it was just something I knew needed to be done,” Kenny said.
Kenny Harrell Rented Equipment to Plow the Snow
Kenny Harrell worked for two days plowing 25 streets and seven parking lots. Not for money or fame, just to help.
“I’m no hero. I’m just a guy out working,” he told KMOV.
Kevin Parviz with Congregation Chai V’Shalom doesn’t see it that way. He canceled services because he was unable to handle the snow on his own.
“I tried. I started in that corner and fell and hit my head on the ground, and almost killed myself. Of course, that’s an exaggeration, but I couldn’t do this myself,” he joked.
As word of Kenny Harrell’s kindness spread on social media, many donated to help cover the cost of his equipment. Kenny paid about $1,100 for the rental, and community donations helped cover nearly the entire cost.
“This is unimaginable for us, so I’m so grateful to have Kenny doing this,” Kevin said. “I just think it’s really important to make the world a better place, help your people out, and be a community,” he added.
Kenny Harrell wants to do what he can for others while he can.
“At some point we all have to get of age. My body won’t be as big and strong one day, so I hope somewhere someway, someone will help me out, help my mom out, help my girl or my daughters out. That’s what it’s all about,” he said.
