What Could Your Dog’s Staring Mean?

No one truly understands why dogs stare at humans. The American Kennel Club (AKC) attributes the habit to a variety of potential reasons. Sometimes, your dog may be trying to sense your mood. They’ll watch us to determine if we’ll grab the leash, or perhaps a treat, or sit and offer cuddle time. By watching us, they can determine what we might be expecting from them.

Some dogs watch their owner when they need to go out. Although scratching the door or ringing a bell is easier, some dogs think staring conveys their potty needs. Your dog may be staring because you’re eating, and they want you to share. Or perhaps it is 0.00001 seconds past dinner time, and you haven’t gotten up to feed them yet.

It’s also possible that your dog is simply staring at you because they love you. Whatever their reasoning, each dog has its way of expressing themselves. As man’s best friend, dogs give us some of our best memories, even if they constantly judge us.

Please share if you have felt the intensity of a dog staring at you.
