In 2016, Walt Disney Animation Studios gave us Moana. The animated movie follows the titular character on an epic adventure searching for the person deep inside her. Along the way, she meets Maui, the demigod voiced by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Nearly a decade after the first animated film’s release, Walt Disney brought Moana to life in a live-action film, once again starring Dwayne Johnson as Maui. This time, Dwayne collaborated with American Idol winner Iam Tongi for the song “Your Dad” on the film’s Moana: Voices Across the Ocean companion album. Dwayne Johnson said his daughters served as an inspiration. He told People he kept the mantra “Just sing from the heart” while recording.

Dwayne Johnson’s Love for His Daughters Helped Him with the New ‘Moana’ Song
Dwayne Johnson, a father to three daughters, told People about a conversation with 10-year-old Jasmine while working on the new Moana song.
“There’s a line in the song that says, ‘A deeper love that I never knew. You took my heart, and you pulled it through.’ Our 10-year-old asked me the other night, when I was putting her to bed, ‘What does that mean?’”
Dwayne Johnson said he explained things to Jasmine as simply as he could. “‘Sometimes life can be challenging, and you have challenges in life. You don’t feel it now, maybe you do a little bit being 10, but one day you’ll feel it. You’ll just feel the pressure of life.’”
“‘Without you even knowing, you took my heart, and you pulled me through just by being who you are. So I want to empower you with that. That’s what that line means,’” Dwayne Johnson told her young daughter.
“She was like, ‘Wow,’” he told People with a smile on his face and deep in her heart.
