Adolfo Molina Burgos is a 25-year-old Uber driver who lives in Massachusetts with his wife and two children. He was driving on Interstate 93 north of Boston when he saw a blue car driving haphazardly on the shoulder of the fast lane. As he pulled alongside, he saw that the driver was slumped over the steering wheel, unconscious.
“I realized they were unconscious and dizzy, colliding with the wall, with the window,” Adolfo, who hails from the Dominican Republic originally, said via a translator.
Out of control, the car continued to speed along the roadway, bumping into the barrier and coming perilously close to hitting other drivers. Adolfo knew what he needed to do and sprung into action, pulling his car over on the right-hand shoulder and dashing across four busy lanes of traffic to reach the passenger side of the car. Someone in another car filmed the incredible moments that Adolfo ran next to the car, trying to open the door to get inside.
Eventually, another driver stopped to assist Adolfo, and they were able to bring the speeding car to a safe stop just before police arrived. The driver was taken to the hospital, and the city of Boston has declared Adolfo a true hero!
Adolfo received commendation awards for heroism from both his local mayor and the Dominican consulate in Boston.
Looking back, Adolfo feels he was meant to be there to help the driver, and says if he is ever in the same situation, he’d do it all over again.
“I think something like God protected me in that moment,” he said.
Watching the video, it’s clear that he was absolutely in the right place at the right time. He deserves all the recognition!
It’s good to know there are brave people like Adolfo out there, just in case!
