The COVID-19 pandemic changed the world in many ways. The restaurant and retail industries struggled with decreased sales, and some made the difficult choice to shutter stores. Others disappeared completely. The pandemic caused significant challenges for buffet and family-style restaurants as fear took over. More than six years after closing 97 locations, Sweet Tomatoes and Souplantation have huge plans for the future. The company reopened in 2024 and opened locations in Tucson, Arizona, and Fort Myers, Florida. Now there are more locations on the way to meet customer demand.

Souplantation and Sweet Tomatoes Have New Restaurants in the Works
According to National Restaurant News, the brand was founded and headquartered in California as Souplantation before its 2020 bankruptcy and liquidation. New locations in the Golden State will be called Souplantation to honor the company’s roots, but those outside California will be Sweet Tomatoes.
The chain specializes in healthy options that customers love. The menu changes often, allowing guests to plan their visits around what they love the most. Souplantation and Sweet Tomatoes continue to maintain a presence on social media, and fans love hearing there will be more locations soon.
“WE’RE GETTING SOUPLANTATION BACK! If you grew up going to Souplantation, this is the comeback we’ve been waiting for! The all-you-can-eat soup and salad buffet is officially returning to Fountain Valley in 2027 at its former location,” a recent Instagram post reads.
“Y’ALL BETTER HAVE THAT TUNA TARRAGON PASTA BC MOMMA IS COMING IN BAKED LIKE THOSE BLUEBERRY MUFFINS,” a fan wrote.
Others have very fond memories of the buffet restaurant.
“i’ll never forget at the Porter ranch soup plantation that there used to be this older lady when I was little who would pass out cookies 🙂 we would go so frequently, she got to see me grow up a little bit,” a guest shared.
Others petitioned for Souplantation and Sweet Tomatoes to open near them. “Here’s hoping yall return to Colorado,” a fan wrote.
