This Brazilian man was hiking up a mountain when he received a call he didn’t expect: the hospital selected him for a kidney transplant.
Patients can spend years on kidney transplant waiting lists, but once a kidney becomes available, they need to act quickly.
This hiker couldn’t get off the mountain fast enough, which is when the Brazilian healthcare system stepped in.
To get the man to his transplant in time, a helicopter was sent to the top of the mountain! The man climbed in and flew off to his surgery.
And before you ask… this didn’t cost him an arm and a leg, either! The helicopter was completely paid for by the healthcare system of Brazil.
