While working on a home renovation in Green Valley, Illinois, Dakota Mohn discovered a hole in the wall labeled “Note 9/29/1975.” Sure enough, there was a hidden message in a bottle inside the opening! Dakota was fascinated by the letter, which had been written by a 14-year-old girl in 1975. Apparently, she’d stashed the note while her family was renovating the same home all those years ago.

“To whoever finds this: Today is Sept. 29, 1975,” read the message. “My name is Stephanie Herron. I live here with my mother, father, Becky and Valerie. Gerald Ford is president. Mrs. Lay is our neighbor. Mom is pregnant and the baby is due any day now. As far as we know, this house was made in 1872. We are remodeling the house.”
