Made With Love: Paralyzed Dad Builds Dream Bunk Bed For Daughters By Hand.

A two-photo collage. The first shows a top-down view of a dad in a wheelchair. He is sitting among various construction materials. The second photo shows two little girls happily laying in a bed that's a part of a bunk bed/playhouse.

In 2013, Dan Kotter’s life changed. While building a home, he fell 30 ft. — this left him paralyzed from the waist down. Soon after, though, his life also changed in some of the best ways. He met his now wife, Andrea, and together they have six kiddos. Him and Andrea already had two kids each and, together, they brought two more into the world.

As you can imagine, space is tight when you have eight people living under one roof. Their teens are feeling cramped in their space, so they decided to build a custom triple bunkbed/playhouse for their three youngest girls to share. Best of all, this paralyzed dad builds the bunk bed himself!

“There was never any hesitation from Dan, only excitement at the thought of building a masterpiece dream room for his baby girls,” Andrea shares.

Paralyzed Dad Builds His Daughters Custom Bunk Beds

Construction began in January of 2023 and is almost complete. Their goal is to finish up by January 2024. Things are looking good so far — the girls were recently able to temporarily sleep in their room for the first time in a while.

In the meantime, they’ve been sleeping on their mattresses in the living room. Needless to say, everyone is super excited for the day they’ll be back in their own room again!

“Dan has been working tirelessly in between all of the other craziness he’s dealing with and yesterday it was finished enough to put their mattresses in temporarily (until we pull them back out to paint this week)!!!” Andrea writes. “They were so excited! What an incredible gift their daddy is giving them! Not only a DREAM bedroom, but the priceless lessons he is teaching them along the way!”

In a video that captures this moment, these adorable girls, who are between the ages of 2 and 12, couldn’t look happier to be in their fun new room.

“Their giggles and excitement made all the hard work worth it,” Andre recalls. “And when we were putting them to bed that night they said, ‘Thank you Daddy and Mommy for our new room!'”

Watch these sweet girls’ reaction to when their paralyzed dad builds them super cool bunk beds in the video below.

@thewheelchairdad Dan was paralyzed while building a home. He is STILL an incredible builder! #unstoppable We designed this built-in bunkbed/playhouse about a year ago and it has been an absolute labor of love this year! We are pressing to get it finished ASAP because these babies have been sleeping with their mattresses on our living room floor and we don’t have a place for our Christmas tree. 🤦🏻‍♀️ Dan has been working tirelessly in between all of the other craziness he’s dealing with and yesterday it was finished enough to put their mattresses in temporarily (until we pull them back out to paint this week)!!! They were so excited! What an incredible gift their daddy is giving them! Not only a DREAM bedroom, but the priceless lessons he is teaching them along the way! As they were going to sleep last night, they both said “Thank you Daddy and Mommy for our bedroom!” 🥹💜♿️💪 #worthit ♬ Unstoppable (I put my armor on, show you how strong I am) – Sia
