Boyfriend Sets Up Unforgettable “Eiffel Tower” Proposal When Paris Trip Is Canceled.

They say Virginia is for lovers, and one Fredericksburg couple is proving that motto right!

Graphic designer Luke McClung and high school English teacher Erika Diffendall have been dating for the past four years. Luke was planning to pop the question on their romantic trip to Paris this spring, but he had to think on his feet because of the novel coronavirus.

The day before their dream vacation began, the two of them made the responsible decision to stay home and keep others safe. While they were crushed, they knew they’d made the right choice.

With extra time at home, Luke got creative to bring the city of love to Erika in Virginia! One Friday evening after work, he told her that he and and his brother were “going for a walk.”

When he returned, he took her out for an incredible surprise!

“What happened next seems like a scenario from a good romantic movie,” Erika said later.

He took me to the alley that led to Market Square, where he had drawn a large image of the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe in chalk. He put roses around the base of the Eiffel Tower and took me there. Then he knelt down and asked the question! It was so sweet and thoughtful!

Of course, she said yes!

AJ, Luke’s brother, was hiding behind the bushes and snapped some awesome pictures of their big moment. Once the ring was on Erika’s finger, the happy couple went home – where Luke had arranged another special Parisian treat!

“Luke had French food and champagne waiting for us, which he received from La Petite Auberge, a lovely French restaurant in the city center,” Erika said.

She added that the fun way Luke proposed really took the sting away from canceling their trip. After all, they’re still healthy and safe, and that’s what really matters!

“Although it wasn’t Paris and the coronavirus turned our spring break upside down, our engagement was perfect and very special,” Erika said. “It will always be a reminder to see good in stressful situations and stay positive.â€

Then their story went viral, which only added to their joy! They were even featured on actor John Krasinski’s new web show, “Some Good News.”

We’d say this proposal turned out better than Luke ever expected. It just goes to show that with a little creativity, life goes on – even in quarantine!
