When you’re a child is alone in the world, every birthday wish is the same: “I wish for a family of my own.”
Jessica and Jeremiah Frank of Arizona have one son Skyler, and although they were happy with their lives, Jessica often thought about adding another member to their family via adoption. Jessica’s parents were foster parents, so she had witnessed the sadness kids feel when they’re going through life without a family to support them. Jeremiah, however, was comfortable with how things were and didn’t feel the need to make any changes.

But then he met Shailee.
The Frank family are extremely active, spending a lot of time exploring the outdoors on their bicycles or on foot. One day they invited Jessica’s parents’ newest foster child, a little girl named Shailee, to come along on a hike with them.
Jeremiah had never met Shailee before, but they instantly hit it off. The little girl seemed to get along great with Skyler, too.

That day, as they stopped to eat lunch, Jeremiah was chatting with Shailee when she made a heartbreaking statement that would change their lives. The child admitted that all she wanted in the world was a family to adopt her.
That’s when Jeremiah had a change of heart.

That night, at Jeremiah’s prompting, the couple signed up for classes to get licensed to foster children in their state. Nine months later, Shailee moved in with the Frank family. They told Shailee that Jessica’s parents were no longer fostering kids and they had agreed to take her in. She didn’t realize that they were secretly planning to adopt her all along!

In late 2017, the Franks were officially approved to adopt Shailee. They decided to surprise her – and Skyler – with the amazing news, so they told the kids they were going out for ice cream.
In actuality, they were heading home to get changed so they could go to the courthouse to make the adoption official!

The video below shows the exact moment when Shailee finds out she’s going to become an official member of her new family. Quite simply, the little girl’s dream has finally come true, and it’s a beautiful thing to witness.
