In this heartwarming short film produced by IKEA we were reminded how fast life can pass us by. The scene opens with a little boy, maybe 7 or 8, walking through the store with his mom. The boy seems oddly mature, commenting on the quality of the furniture and even breaking out a measuring tape while his mother thoughtfully watches.

While sitting with a twenty-something employee, Mom watches as her little guy asks the girl’s name, then obviously flirting with her a little bit. His mother gives a small smile and maybe a slight shake of her head at the precocious little one. Then while mother and son are in the checkout line, she goes to pay… but her little guy stops her and pays with his own money.
The duo make their way outside where the boy loads the furniture all by himself into a van. But the most surprising part is when he plops himself down in the driver’s seat. Finally, in this moment, we see the truth behind the veil of a mother’s eyes.
The boy was not a little boy anymore. He was actually a young man the whole time, but through his mom’s eyes he will always be her little boy. Her eyes begin to well up when her son says, “I’m only moving around the corner.”
No matter how much time passes by children will always be kids in their parent’s eyes. It’s a beautiful reminder to cherish every moment in life because time will fly by and before we know it, it will be time for our “little” children to move out and start lives of their own.
