American Idol has brought together talent from around the nation for over twenty years. People come from cities big and small to share their voices with the country.

According to an American Idol fan site, the show is taking a new approach to initial auditions this season. It appears that the judges are traveling to each of their hometowns and auditioning singers!

Lionel Richie was born and raised in Tuskegee, Alabama. The small town has under 10,000 residents, but has clearly produced some incredible talent!

Lionel, alongside Katy Perry and Luke Bryan, recently arrived in Tuskegee and gave them a proper tour of the town. While in town, he was honored with a ceremony dedicating Hello Park, and the three judges planted trees there.

The judges were warm and friendly. They clearly have a genuine affection for one another, and the opportunity to see Lionel’s hometown was a blessing for each of them.

The crew apparently hit Luke Bryan’s hometown in Georgia prior to filming in Alabama, and they’ll be heading to Katy’s hometown of Santa Barbara, California later this month.

Season 22 is set to air in the spring of 2024. Keep your eyes peeled for these special hometown visits!
