“Letting My Horse Take Me Wherever She Wants So She Knows I Care About Her Interests Too”

The POV of a woman riding her horse

In what has become a popular online series, horse owner Fiona Parks lets her horse go wherever she wants. Typically, horses are trained to respond to the signals from their rider to guide them. When Fiona allows her horse to go wherever she wants, they have some unique, adventurous rides. You can view Part 1 here and Part 2 here.

The one thought when viewing these clips is that horses have a variety of interests. Clearly, Fiona’s horse likes to view more than the barn and the pasture. When trail horse Cadillac was given free rein, he led his rider to a new trail, where they discovered an orphaned foal. Fiona’s horse discovered the manure bin, which wasn’t nearly as exciting.

The idea behind Fiona’s free rein time is to let her horse know that Fiona cares about her interests. We can’t speak to the animal‘s grasp of this concept, but she does do a considerable amount of exploring.

Fiona’s horse seems to want to revisit the same areas. It is interesting to see her stop to grab a bite of grass in the same spot during different walks. Maybe the grass is sweeter in those areas. They are up to the fifth installment in the series. You can view Part 4 here. The end of Part 5 is surprising.

At the end of that last clip, Fiona’s horse only wanted one thing: to return to her stall. Although her horse seems to enjoy these excursions and going where she wants, it was time to return to her stall. To see future episodes, please follow Fiona on TikTok.
