Since “American Idol” began in 2002, millions of singers have hoped to receive a Golden Ticket to Hollywood. That meant performing on stage alongside other contestants and getting one step closer to winning it all. On September 15, 2026, ABC made a huge announcement that surprised many. “American Idol” is leaving Hollywood after 25 years and moving to Atlanta, where production costs are much lower, according to Deadline. It’s the end of an era for “American Idol,” but marks what could mean a big boon for production companies in the South.

“American Idol” Hasn’t Made an Official Studio Announcement
According to Deadline, “American Idol” is leaving Hollywood, but exactly where the show will be produced remains a bit of a mystery. Fremantle produces “Idol” along with Sony Pictures Television-backed 19 Entertainment and confirmed the move. The company did not name a studio, as it’s reportedly still in negotiations. According to Deadline, Georgia offers a 30% tax credit for unscripted shows produced in the state. For programs like “American Idol,” that could mean substantial savings.
“American Idol”’s move away from Hollywood caused mixed reactions on social media. Many associate the show with the glamorous city.
“’Going to Hollywood’ has always been Idol’s catchphrase. That’s the true story,” a fan shared on X.
“’ YOU’RE GOING TO GEORGIA!’ Just gives nothing,” another person wrote.
Some people think that the move might detract viewers. “I’m gonna wait for the people to complain when you can’t tell where they are anyway since it’s filmed in a studio lol.”
Others look forward to seeing “American Idol” in a new city.
“Great!!! Georgia is a beautiful state with a dynamic business environment. Welcome!” Another person shared.
This fan wonders if a certain cast member might be the driving force. “Ryan Seacrest is from Georgia, his mother still lives there. His father died a few months ago … it wouldn’t shock me if this decision is partly because Ryan wants to spend more time with her.”
Will you watch “Idol” when it moves to Georgia?
