LeBron James will play a record-breaking 24th season in the NBA during the 2026-2027 season, but he will do it as a free agent. On June 30, 2026, the Los Angeles Lakers confirmed 41-year-old LeBron James will not return to play at Crypto.com Arena. He’s officially leaving the team after eight seasons.

Lakers owner Jeanie Buss shared a message on X thanking LeBron for his tenure in purple and gold.

“LeBron James is one of the greatest athletes in history,” she shared. “We will always be thankful for his eight years with the Lakers — including the title he led us to in 2020 under the toughest imaginable circumstances and the countless records he broke in purple and gold. We wish him all the best in the future, both on the court and off. He will always be a cherished part of the Lakers family.”

LeBron James Will Miss The Lakers Family

LeBron James shared the team’s message and a statement of gratitude to everyone in LA.

“No, THANK YOU! Truly a honor to wear the purple and gold while trying to continuing the greatness & legacies that came before me! Hope I made a few proud during my stint,” he shared.

LeBron James fans can’t wait to see what the future holds for one of the greatest players to ever play the game.

“With all due respect to Lakers fans. It was awesome to see you play in L.A. Lakers fans lucky to have you. C’mon home man. Peace! Be The King of Ohio. Also, lower taxes! All the movies being filmed here!! Go CAVS!!” A fan wrote.

This person will support LeBron James no matter what.

“honestly LeBron, i love you. What ever move you make ill support always. I never really had a dad growing up, and watching you made me realize you give me a father figure in my life. You’re the man on, and OFF the court. Lebron where ever you go, WE will support,” they wrote.

It will certainly be interesting to see where he lands.
